Amelia’s Story

At 10 weeks into my pregnancy, our daughter was diagnosed with a giant omphalocele, a serious condition in which her abdominal wall did not fully close, requiring specialized care throughout my pregnancy and after birth. Following recommendations from my maternal fetal medicine specialist, we relocated from El Paso to Austin so that I could deliver at a hospital equipped to meet her complex medical needs.
After birth, our daughter spent 50 days in the NICU, where she required constant monitoring and medical treatment. The experience was emotionally challenging, as we were away from our home, family, friends, and support system while facing uncertainty about her health and discharge timeline.
Today, we are grateful to share that our daughter has been discharged from the NICU and is happily at home with our family. While her journey has been difficult, we remain thankful for the care she received and hopeful for her continued progress.
