Community-Powered Breakthrough: Fund the Inaugural O Warrior Omphalocele Research Grant

Every single dollar moves this one-of-a-kind research forward. Your donation directly contributes to this groundbreaking trial in the United States and the potential it could have for future O Warriors everywhere!

A Historic Grant

For years, research funding for omphaloceles has lagged. But today, the power is in our hands. O Warrior is proud to announce the first-ever research grant funded entirely by the omphalocele community. This grant is not just funding research, it is funding hope. It proves that when our community unites, we can drive medical innovation from the ground up.

Partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital

We have selected a bold, high-impact study from a world-renowned institution: Boston Children’s Hospital. Here is more information about the research study itself:

  • Project Title: Innovative Prenatal Therapy for Giant Omphalocele Using Botulinum Toxin: A Prospective Pilot Study

  • The Challenge: Babies born with Giant Omphalocele often face a difficult start to life. The size of the omphalocele can restrict the growth of the lungs (pulmonary hypoplasia), leading to breathing difficulties, lengthy NICU stays, and high-risk procedures.

  • The Breakthrough: This grant is funding a pioneering pilot study that aims to test a potential solution before birth. Researchers at Boston Children’s will be studying the feasibility and safety of using Botulinum Toxin Type A (BoNT-A), commonly known as Botox, injected prenatally. The goal is to temporarily relax the baby’s abdominal wall muscles, allowing the omphalocele sac to shrink and improved readiness for surgical closure after birth.

  • The Impact: If this pilot study proves safe and feasible, it will pave the way for a major clinical trial that could establish a completely new standard of prenatal care. We could fundamentally change the trajectory of Giant Omphalocele care.
