Lenna’s story
Written by: Heather Rivington
Lenna was born in Ottawa at 37 weeks 6 days via scheduled C-section. We found out about her giant O at 12 weeks pregnant. At 18 weeks we found out about her CHD, tetralogy of fallot. We were told right then to terminate as her chances of survival were low. The genetic testing was a stressful time but after all the testing they could do, everything came back normal- this was just bad luck and not caused by anything.
In the NICU we did special bandages with silver dressing to do the “paint and wait” method. Her O was liver only and the surgeons didn’t want to operate anytime soon. After 2 months in the hospital she was able to go home since she no longer needed breathing support. We took over the wound care at home. Around 5 months old we didn’t have to cover it anymore since it had completely skin covered! She has also had her heart surgery. She will need more but right now she is doing amazing. She recently just got her NG out as well just after 7 months old after having it since birth. She’s a tiny but mighty little warrior and I’m so glad we believed in her from the start. She has made it clear that the world needed her.
