Semyre’s Story

O Warrior Stories

Written by: Kiana Bryant

Born July 9th was Born with an Omphalocele, we found out about 12 weeks in to my pregnancy that he was born with this. I cried I really didn’t know anything about it so they scheduled us to go to an Advance fetal care hospital where they can tell us more about his omphalocele. Going to the doctors appointments I got to see him more in depth and they didn’t think Semyre was gonna make it to our next few doctors appointments because he had  this omphalocele which had some kidney and some intestines , They thought it was gonna stop his growth and he would probably be small in size . HOWEVER we made it to a full 37 weeks with him weighing 7 pounds and 14 oz .I had to go to weekly doctor’s visits to check on him . I was high risk and was told I wouldn’t have the chance to have a natural birth with him it would have to be a c section . I gave birth and automatically they took him away I seen a glimpse of him and that was all I couldn’t get to see him the first day or so because I was still healing from a fresh surgery but when I did it was love at first sight . It was all worth it every tear the journey it took to get here just everything . Now Semyre is still in the NICU he been having respiratory problems which we knew about because his lungs are premature due to his omphalocele and we tried extubation and he did as well as we could have asked for so now we are on the tracheostomy journey . This storm is not forever it’s just for a little while.
